What’s new in Sri Lanka from Eden Villas
Eden Villas, the leading luxury villa expert in Sri Lanka, is delighted to introduce its latest brand new and renovated, relaunched properties along the southern coast.
Braganza House, Talpe, Galle - brand new property
Braganza House is an imaginatively designed bohemian tropical home, set amongst almost two acres of walled gardens with far reaching countryside views. Taking inspiration from a traditional Sri Lankan bungalow, the British owner and interior designer Chlöe Elkerton has added a mix of Mediterranean and Moroccan influences to create spaces that are full of personality. Inspired by the surrounding nature and a love for incorporating tactile elements, the artworks and interior details reflect the beaches, ocean, flora and fauna of Sri Lanka.
The lush tropical garden which surrounds the house is perfect for a game of croquet or yoga on the pool deck. Home to peacocks, exotic birds, monkeys, and a wide variety of fruit trees and flowers, the garden with its sweeping views is a wonderful place to relax and appreciate the surrounding wildlife. An organic shaped terrazzo pool features a natural beach-like deck, bringing a slice of the beach inland. Adjacent to the pool is the rustic chic al-fresco dining area. It has been designed with a roof made with cinnamon sticks which provides some welcome shade.
The house, verandahs and pool area span over 6,000 square feet, with plenty of space for families or groups of friends. Braganza is a few minutes away from the best beaches of Sri Lanka and a mere 20 minutes from historical Galle Fort. The house has four guest suites accommodating up to eight guests. It is fully staffed, including an excellent chef.
Eden Villas (www.edenvillas.com) offers nightly rates at Braganza House from £532. Minimum stay 2-5 nights depending on dates. Sleeps 8. Minimum age 6 years old.
Claughton House, Dikwella - updated iconic property
Designed and built by the late Geoffrey Bawa in the mid 1980s, Claughton House is one of the most iconic private villas in Sri Lanka. Having undergone a complete redesign of the pool, poolside dining pavilion and BBQ as well as an interior enhancement and landscaping, Claughton House has now reopened for bookings. The newly designed pool is one of the most impressive ocean front pools in Sri Lanka.
Sitting within a seven-acre walled estate, the house is perched 25m above sea level and has three master king suites, and two further suites usually reserved for children with up to seven single beds. The villa has private beach access onto a soft sandy beach that sweeps away for over a mile. The ocean has a beginner surf break and is often used by local surf schools as a teaching wave. There is a dedicated yoga shala, massage room, TV and games room and table tennis. Claughton House comes with a full team including chef, sous chef, poolside butler and mixologist, steward, and housekeepers.
Eden Villas (www.edenvillas.com) offers nightly rates at Claughton House from £850. Minimum stay 2-7 nights depending on dates. Sleeps 14.
Skye House, Habaraduwa, Galle - renovations complete after two year closure
Located 10km from the historic Galle Fort on a gorgeous soft sandy beach, Skye House was one of the most sought-after family beach holiday villas in Sri Lanka. Following extensive external renovations and an interior upgrade by designer, Jo Eden, Skye House is now ready to reclaim its place.
Sleeping up to eight adults in four master suites, and eight children in a six bunk bed suite (plus two extra beds that can be placed in a master suite), this stunning villa appeals to multi generation groups as well as large family gatherings. The interiors have a delicate, classically elegant style with the original furniture stripped down to reveal stunning local teak. Natural light now floods the space, being maximised with minimal white walls and painted vaulted ceilings. The living area has been reconfigured to create an open plan sitting and dining space that celebrates the surrounding sea and beach views.
A new master suite has a private poolside terrace offering sea views, whilst a new family suite also with ocean views has a king sleigh bed plus a single bed for a child. A claw foot bath tub has been restored and offers sea views from the Grand master suite on the first floor. There’s a new games room with table football and pool table, and a private massage deck overlooking a tranquil inner courtyard and carp-filled pond. A 6ft wide tiled deck now spans the width of the property.
Outside, the L-shaped pool is surrounded by a newly widened deck with alfresco breakfast table. Beyond lies direct access to one of Sri Lanka’s best palm fringed beaches, a favourite spot for hatching sea turtles on moonlit nights. The house is staffed by an exceptional team to pamper guests, including an acclaimed private chef who gains inspiration from Bill Granger and Ottolenghi, as well as stewards, housekeepers and security, providing the high level of professional service for which Eden Villas is known.
Eden Villas (www.edenvillas.com) offer nightly rates at Skye House from £640. Minimum stay 2-7 nights depending on dates. Sleeps 16.
